MY PATH
I decided to stop drinking in my mid-20s. I did the math, and it just didn’t make sense anymore—too expensive, both monetarily and energetically. Years later, I was inspired to start a sober social event in Los Angeles called The Shine. We began with about 12 people, and it quickly grew to hundreds across LA, NYC, and London. That led to a profile in The New York Times, which caught the attention of a literary agent who asked if I wanted to write a book on meditation. That first book turned into five—and counting. Which is why I often say: giving up alcohol had a bigger impact on my professional life than anything else I’ve done.
