Today's lesson
When it comes to meditation, there are too many misconceptions to count. To start this challenge, we're going to look at what meditation is and isn't, and start laying the foundation for a new level of understanding over these next 21 days.
What meditation is NOT
Meditation is NOT practice that requires you to:
be uncomfortable
battle your thoughts
sit like a monk
become a vegetarian
spend hours in silence
What meditation IS
Meditation IS a practice that:
should feel easy
anyone can do
enhances performance
can be done anywhere
will save you time
Today's Challenge:
Do a 10-minute silent meditation
We're not going to get into a lot of detail right now. I just want you to sit with your eyes closed for 10-minutes. This should ideally be a silent meditation, meaning you are NOT going to use guidance, apps, or music. Here are your instructions:
Find a comfortable seat (no lying down)
Set a soft alarm for 10 minutes
Close your eyes
Rest your awareness on your breathing
Stay relaxed
Practice being judgement-free with your thoughts
When the alarm goes off, you're done
Assessment
This meditation is important to do because it will serve as your reference point, so you can see how far you've come by the end of the 21-days. Notice if the meditation felt difficult or easy? Notice if the time went by quickly or slowly? Notice if your mind felt busy or settled?
Accountability Exercise
Take a post-meditation selfie (or another image representing your first meditation) and post it on your social media, with a caption announcing your goal of making it to the end of the 21-days. Ask your friends to hold you accountable, and make sure to tag #blissmore and #blissmorechallenge so we can hold each other accountable as well.
